Electrical engineering

During the last ten years the interest in the Electrical Engineering degree course has been increasingly growing up. There is a high demand for our alumni – PhD, BSc and MSc graduates by a number of substantial businesses in the south of Bulgaria such as: Siemens, Schneider Electric, ABB, Liebherr, EVN, CEZ Bulgaria, Filkab, Tabakov and Sons Ltd., Intercomplex Ltd., Electrolux, etc. Department of Electrical Engineering prepares students for future successful careers meeting the ever-growing demand for engineers and currently, all MSc graduates and a large part of the BSc students work in prestigious companies.

At present, the Department comprises new laboratories among them, one equipped by Schneider Electric with advanced measurement and control equipment of electrical quantities, modern electrotechnology laboratories, laboratories for electric apparatus and commutation devices and for renewable energy sources.

The Department provides courses in all three types of Electrical Engineering degree programmes – Bachelor’s, Masters’ and PhD. These degree programmes combine classical basis and modern trends related to various applications of electricity in all spheres of contemporary life. Graduates may pursue a career in any company dealing with design, production and maintenance of electrical equipment. The degree programmes are traditional and widespread in all prestigious European technical universities. Graduates are well trained and provided with profound knowledge and practical skills, necessary for the energy conversion and use and related facilities in all areas of modern life.

Lecturers from the Department deliver the following core courses within the Electrical Engineering degree programmes:

Theoretical Electrical Engineering, Electrical Measurements, Electric Machines, Electrical apparatus, Electrical Power Engineering, Lighting and Installation Equipment, Power Electronics, High Voltage Engineering, Design of Electrical Machines, Commutation Equipment, Engineering Ecology and Renewable Sources of Energy, CAD systems in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Networks and Systems, Electronic Measurement Equipment and Primary Converters, Numerical Methods and Modelling of Circuits and Fields, High Voltage Electrical Equipment, Measurement Tools and Systems, Power Supply and Electrical Equipment, Electrical Equipment Protection,Electrical materials, Technologies in Electrical Engineering and Electronics, Electrical Engineering Applications – Household Appliances, Transient Processes in Electrical Networks and Grids, Application of Electronic Devices in Transport.
